| What is the difference between Numeric (Digital) and Alphanumeric (Word) paging? | | Both pagers are capable of displaying a caller's telephone number which can be left via any touch tone capable telephone. In addition to this, alphanumeric pagers are capable of receiving actual text messages sent via computer, messaging services, or e-mail. Alphanumeric paging can save time by allowing you to receive your messages directly without the need to return telephone calls. |
| How can someone page my alphanumeric pager? | | Four options are provided by Paging Plus to utilize your alphanumeric pager. Of course, a numeric page can be sent from any telephone, however, for alphanumeric messages, many businesses and individuals use computer-based software and their modem to directly connect to our paging terminal. Secondly, messages can be forwarded to your alphanumeric pager through this web site by selecting the 'Send A Page' Button, and following the instructions. It is also possible to forward your e-mails directly to your pager via the web with your pager email (alias@paging-plus.com). |
| Where will my pager work? | | The area within which your pager will work is dependant upon the service plan selected. Paging plus offers Local, Local-Plus, Regional, and Nation-Wide State-to-State service plans. Ask your paging plus representative for details. |
| How does paging work? | | Paging Plus pagers are assigned telephone numbers that can be called from anywhere in the world. To receive the page, you must be within the coverage zone of the transmitters included in your service plan. Our paging terminal converts the local telephone call to digital data that is transmitted within the areas assigned to your pager. Your pager has been assigned a specific code that allows it to receive only those messages intended for you. |
| Can my pager work anywhere? | | Unfortunately, no. For your pager to operate, it has to be within a specific area covered by a terrestrial (land) based transmitter. Many areas of the country are not covered by transmitters because of the lack of population in rural areas and the high annual cost of maintaining transmitter towers. The misconception that "satellite paging" means the satellite send the message directly to your pager is difficult to dispel. While the satellite system distributes the signal to our ground-based transmitters, you must be within the coverage area of one of these transmitters in order to receive your page. |
| What should I do if my pager gets wet? | | Most pagers are designed to handle the occasional rain shower that may wet the case of the pager. However, if you should accidentally submerge your pager, or if you believe water or some other liquid has gotten into your pager, your first and foremost concern should be to get the battery out of the pager. Simply turning off the pager may not prevent current from being drawn from the battery throughout the pager, causing irreversible corrosion damage to the circuit boards. The pager will require complete disassembly and drying by a competent service provider. Contact our office our your local reseller. |
| I already have a pager. Will it work on your system? Can you 'recrystal' it to work? | | Paging Plus utilizes a nation-wide frequency of 152.480MHz. Any digital pager on this frequency can be reprogrammed (providing any passwords used can be broken) to work on our systems. Many pagers utilize 450MHz or 900MHz frequencies that make the pager incompatible. Many companies offer "recrystalling," which is not physically possible on many pagers. In actuality, they are providing you with used replacement pager parts. This gives you a pager with no guarantee of reliability. Paging Plus suggests new replacements to provide you with a factory warranty, quality products, and the high reliability we strive for. |
| How much will a pager cost me? | | Each of Paging Plus' agents set the price on the brand of pagers they sell. We recommend you contact a dealer in your area that can provide you with the current information on pricing and special offers in your area. |
| How does Voice Mail work? | | With Paging Plus voice mail, callers are greeted with your personalized voice greeting and then instructed to leave a voice message or key in their phone number. Our paging terminal stores the callers voice and then notifies your pager that you have a voice mail waiting. This message can be retrieved by dialing your own pager number and completing the voice mail retrieval process. After listening to the voice message, you are given the option of saving this message or deleting it. The number of messages, length of message times, and message retention time are determined by your voice mail service plan. |
| How does E-Mail paging work? | | Each alphanumeric paging customer has the option (at no charge) to choose an alias @ paging-plus.com to which emails can be sent. Acceptance of e-mail aliases by Paging Plus are subject to availability. Paging plus reserves the right to reject any alias which it feels may be objectionable to others, or discriminatory in nature. This e-mail address is forwarded via the internet to our server, which checks for validity, converts the data into a format compatible to the pager, and sends up to 250 characters (or less, depending on the capacity of the receiving pager) to the pager. Our server can also forward a copy with any attachments to another e-mail address for later review. There is a nominal charge of $1.00 per month for this service |
